Sketch Book 76: The American
Soldier 1775-1781
by Robert L. Klinger
Union City, Tennessee: Pioneer Press, 1974.
54 pages KS-bk: $8.00
From the Introduction: "This collection
of sketches, notes, and patterns was compiled from the study of actual
existing specimens of clothing and equipment used by the American foot
soldier in the Revolutionary War, and also by the use of many contemporary
notes, manuscripts, paintings, and drawings as a basis for its contents.
It is the author’s profound hope that this collection of material will
stimulate interest and help give an accurate and detailed impression of
how the American soldier appeared in this period of our history. Note:
On Clothing, all patterns herein, if enlarged to scales shown will make
size 37-38 to fit a man 5'6", 135-140 lbs. Other sizes can be made by changing
the proportions of the patterns by following the usual tailoring methods."
Many
of the pieces described in this book are the same as, or very similar to
civilian articles. A good basic book.
